Founder Intro & Early Years

Hi, I’m Garima Mahar—designer, storyteller, and lifelong upcycler behind Palat.

Since childhood, I couldn’t throw things away—old scraps, leftover fabrics, forgotten bits…

My mom lovingly called me a ‘waste hoarder.’

Turning Point: The Fast-Fashion Realization

But somewhere along the way, I became swept up in fast fashion—until I watched The True Cost during the COVID lockdown.

That documentary shattered me: fashion was now the second most polluting industry.”

Birth of Palat

During lockdown, I returned to my roots—sitting with scraps, stitching ideas, experimenting with denim.
It was messy. It was magical.

And that’s when Palat was born in 2024.

‘Palat’ means ‘turn’—we flip discarded materials into something bold, personal, and forever.

Philosophy & Future Vision

At Palat, every piece is crafted with love, intention, and story—blending modern aesthetics with our desi twist through Indian textile traditions.

While most items are true one-offs, we also create limited runs in multiple sizes, because sustainable fashion should be expressive and accessible.

My hope is that wearing Palat sparks your own journey toward deeper connection and pride in what you wear.
